Origin

Half way between Dijon and Beaune, and with an eastern exposure, the vines of Nuits-Saint-Georges extend for 6 kilometres and cover 160 hectares of the village appellation. The local variation in soils, exposure and location produce a great diversity of terroir. The area as a whole is bisected by the little Meuzin river and its valley, and by the village itself.

Viticulture

Grape variety: pinot noir
Soils: "Aux Tuyaux", very thin soil with limestone stones. The 2nd plot, compact, thin and very draining Comblanchien limestone soil.
Orientation: South/South-East
Surface area under vine: 0.6996 ha
Pruning: Guyot system
Yield: 30 hL/ha
Average age of the vines: 40 years old.

Vinification

Harvest date: 8 October 2013.
The grapes were handpicked. They were sorted a first time in the vineyard and again on the sorting table when they arrived at the winery.
At the winery: the grapes are entirely destemmed but not crushed (they remain whole) and transferred by gravity into a vat. Maceration lasts around 3 weeks, with more or less frequent cap punching ‘by foot’. No œnological product of the yeast, enzyme or tannin variety is added, so as not to detract from such a precious terroir.

Ageing

Maturation: aged on the lees for 17 months with no racking using a proportion of 40% new French oak barrels.
Barrels: French oak barrels that had been toasted at low temperatures for a long time to impart a very delicate touch of oak to the wine.

Bottling

Bottling: The wine was very gently filtered before being bottled.

Vintage

2013 , a tardy but typically Burgundian vintage
With harvests in October once again, sorting the grapes was key to the success of this vintage. After 10 days of picking and around a month of vinification, the wines began ageing in oak at the end of October. Some excellent acidity foretells of wines with good keeping potential for both whites and reds.
Ageing potential: from 5 to 10 years.

Tasting notes

The color, of a beautiful intensity is brilliant red. The nose exudes aromas of small black fruits like blackberry and blueberry as well as some spicy notes. On the palate, this wine of a very nice concentration and very greedy, reveals silky tannins.
