Origin

Half way between Dijon and Beaune, and with an eastern exposure, the vines of Nuits-Saint-Georges extend for 6 kilometres and cover 160 hectares of the village appellation. The local variation in soils, exposure and location produce a great diversity of terroir. The area as a whole is bisected by the little Meuzin river and its valley, and by the village itself.

Viticulture

Grape variety: pinot noir
Soils: "Aux Tuyaux", very thin soil with limestone stones. The 2nd plot, compact, thin and very draining Comblanchien limestone soil.
Orientation: South/South-East
Surface area under vine: 0.6996 ha
Pruning: Guyot system
Yield: 30 hL/ha
Average age of the vines: 40 years old.

Vinification

Harvest date: 13 September 2014.
The grapes were handpicked. They were sorted a first time in the vineyard and again on the sorting table when they arrived at the winery.
At the winery: the grapes are entirely destemmed but not crushed (they remain whole) and transferred by gravity into a vat. Maceration lasted a total of 21 days including 1 week of cold maceration (12°C). Fermentation used indigenous yeasts only (no additives such as enzymes or tannins were used). Infrequent punching of the cap (8 maximum).

Ageing

Maturation: aged on the lees for 16 months with no racking using a proportion of 35% new French oak barrels.
Barrels: French oak barrels that had been toasted at low temperatures for a long time to impart a very delicate touch of oak to the wine.

Bottling

Bottling: The wine was very gently filtered before being bottled.

Vintage

2014, a year for whites
The weather this year – with a rainy summer and wonderfully sunny September – was very promising for the whites. The Chardonnays presented a wonderful balance, while the reds were more about sophistication than opulence.
Ageing potential: from 7 to 10 years.

Tasting notes

The color, of a beautiful intensity is purple. The nose exudes aromas of jammy black fruits as well as some liquorice notes. On the palate, this vigorous and robust wine is distinguished by its slight sensation of sweetness on the finish.
