Origin

Halfway between Dijon and Beaune, and with an easterly exposure, the vineyards of Nuits-Saint-Georges extend over 6 kilometres, with 140 hectares of Premier Cru vines. The range of soils, exposure and locations here creates a great diversity of terroirs. The area is bisected by the valley of the small Meuzin river, and the village itself.
The plot 'Les Perrières' is a locality where stone was once mined. A perrière is synonymous with a career.

Viticulture

Grape variety: pinot noir
Soils: very stony
Orientation: East-South-East.

Vinification

Harvest date: 14 September 2014.
The grapes were handpicked. They were sorted a first time in the vineyard and again on the sorting table when they arrived at the winery.
At the winery: the grapes were completely destemmed but not crushed (they were left whole) and were gravity-fed into tanks. Maceration lasted a total of 21 days including one week of cold maceration (12°C). Fermentation used indigenous yeasts only (no additives such as enzymes or tannins were used). Infrequent punching of the cap (8 maximum).

Ageing

Maturation: aged on the lees for 16 months with no racking using a proportion of 30% new French oak barrels.
Barrels: French oak barrels that had been toasted at low temperatures for a long time to impart a very delicate touch of oak to the wine.

Bottling

Bottling: the wine was not fined but was very gently filtered before being bottled using gravity in January 2016.

Vintage

2014, a year for whites
The weather this year – with a rainy summer and wonderfully sunny September – was very promising for the whites. The Chardonnays presented a wonderful balance, while the reds were more about sophistication than opulence.
Ageing potential: 7 to 10 years.

Tasting notes

The brilliant color is a beautiful ruby red. The nose exhales aromas of very ripe berry fruit embellished with spicy notes with some smoky nuances. On the palate, this gourmet and perfectly structured wine reveals a good length.
