Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits
Bio 2024
Some vineyards have the power to attract by their appearance alone, and it is evident that the Hautes-Côtes fall into this category…
Origin
This appellation is unique as it is considered to be a regional appellation, though it is limited to a restricted area. The vineyards run parallel to those of the Côte de Nuits (to the west), but are higher in altitude. The soil is composed of limestone outcrops that Chardonnay thrives in and that lend character and lovely freshness to the wine. Only 120 hectares are planted with Chardonnay.
The vineyard is certified organic.
Viticulture
Grape variety: chardonnay
Soils: Jurassic limestone plateau
Orientation: East
Pruning: Vignes hautes with Guyot system
Average age of the vines: 41 years old.
Vinification
Harvest date: 29 September 2024.
The grapes were handpicked.
At the winery: the whole bunches of grapes were gently pressed for 2½ hours. The temperature of the must was brought down to 12°C then was immediately transferred to barrels with no settling to preserve a maximum of lees.
Ageing
Maturation: aged for 14 months in 450 L barrels with no racking or stirring to bring out all of this wine’s minerality. A proportion of 40% new French oak barrels.
Barrels: French oak barrels that had been toasted at low temperatures for a long time to impart a subtle, delicate touch of oak were used.
Bottling
Bottling: by gravity on December 15, 2025, wine fined with bentonite, light filtration.
Number of bottles: 915.
Vintage
Elegant and Structured
The 2024 vintage, marked by limited sunshine and frequent rainfall, required constant attention in the vineyard. At Les Ursulines, meticulous sorting allowed the selection of the most promising grapes (with very low yields in red), fully expressing the qualitative potential of the harvest. The result meets our highest expectations: the whites display beautiful freshness and acidity, while the reds reveal intense fruit character and supple tannins.
Ageing potential: from 4 to 6 years.
Tasting notes
This wine reveals a pale golden hue with green reflections. It charms with a fragrant, floral nose, featuring notes of hawthorn, linden blossom, and honeysuckle. On the palate, it reveals a lovely freshness combined with green apple aromas. A finely chiseled and precise wine, supported by a delicate acidic backbone and a subtly oaked finish.
